FREDRIKSTAD’S OLD TOWN
Life is different in the Old Town. Laid-back and comfortable. A special district of Fredrikstad that is home to many people who live in the fortified town’s many impressive buildings. Conversation flows easily between permanent residents and visitors; everyone is welcome here.
Bring some good walking shoes for a morning walk along the embankments. A stroll along the embankments, as we say, gives you peace of mind and a great start to the day. The streets are cobbled so we would advise women to wear wedge heels instead of stilettos when going out on the town.
The surrounding area offers a lot of the services you may need. A free ferry trip will take you to Fredrikstad town centre where you’ll find everything you need in terms of shops, cafes and social life. The same ferry will take you over to the other side of the river where you can get the train to Oslo and international destinations. The bus station is located in the centre of Fredrikstad, where you can catch the airport shuttle bus to Oslo Gardermoen Airport, local buses and not least the bus to beautiful Hvaler, where you can carry on island-hopping with one of the ferries from Skjærhalden.
If you’re travelling here in your own car, there is paid parking close to the hotel. A little further away from the Old Town, you can also find free parking.
